(2022) CPT 99391 – CPT 99397 (Established Patient Preventive Medicine Services)
CPT 99391 & CPT 99392 Description: CPT 99391 & CPT 99392 can be used when a physician does a comprehensive review of past family and social history (PFSH), performs a comprehensive review of systems and makes an assessment gender related risk factors and age .
The physician may administer immunizations during the preventive service and obtain and order laboratory/diagnostic procedures.
Patients who are not in need of any immediate medical attention need to undergo a periodic health checkup as a preventive measure and are provided with preventive medicine services.
Preventive medicine reevaluation and management services for CPT 99391 and CPT 99392 are;
- well woman visits;
- routine annual physical check–ups;
- well baby visits.
Visits where the patient has a problem that requires medical attention are different. Risk factors, gender and age of a patient are relevant while preventive medicine service are provided.
CPT 99393 Description: A child (between 5 and 11 years old) is visited by a provider for an established well patient visit.
CPT 99394 Description: An adolescent (between 12 and 17 years old) is visited by a provider for an established well patient visit.
CPT 99395 Description: A patient (between 18 and 39 years old) is visited by a provider for an established well patient visit.
CPT 99396 Description: A patient (between 40 and 64 years old) is visited by a provider for an established well patient visit.
CPT 99397 Description: A patient (65+ years old) is visited by a provider for an established well patient visit.
