(2023) CPT 99460 – CPT 99463 (Newborn Care Services)
Newborn care sevices can be billed with CPT 99460, CPT 99461, CPT 99462 and CPT 99463. The descriptions of the codes can be found below.
CPT 99460
99460 CPT Code Description: CPT code 99460 may be reported when the provider, in birthing center or a hospital, manages and evaluates a normal newborn infants care (usually immediately after birth).
CPT 99461
99461 CPT Code Description: CPT code 99460 may be reported when the provider, at a location other than a birthing center or hospital, manages and evaluates a normal newborn infants care (usually immediately after birth).
CPT 99462
99462 CPT Code Description: CPT code 99462 can be used when a provider performs, on a day subsequent to the initial hospital evaluation, the management and evaluation of a normal newborn.
CPT 99462 is an inpatient only procedure code.
CPT 99463
99463 CPT Code Description: CPT code 99463 can be reported when the care of a normal newborn infant is evaluated and managed by the provider, in a birthing center or hospital (usually immediately after birth) through the time of release or discharge from the facility the same day.
Bill CPT 99238 or CPT 99239 for newborn hospital discharge services provided on a date subsequent to the admission date.
