Coordinator - Professional Coding Quality and Education

Henry Ford Health

Directly coordinates, oversees, and controls the flow of medical record coded information required of the hospital and ambulatory sites for billing and reimbursement purposes. Responsible for the completeness, accuracy, quality, and timely submission of all medical data and supporting documentation for inpatient discharges and outpatient encounters. Acts as the departmental liaison to activities in the coding reimbursement process. Assesses, designs, and evaluates educational programs and processes aimed at improving documentation practices quality for Henry Ford Health System. Serves as an educational resource for providers and coding staff relating to coding and documentation.

High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required. Associates Degree in Healthcare related field, Medical Records Sciences, or Business/Healthcare administration or five years coding experience may be considered in lieu of education requirement. Additional specialty coding certification or two years of specialty coding experience required. Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes, medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding systems is necessary.

Five years of specialty coding experience preferred.

Certification in at least one of the following: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or RHIT Certification eligibility, CPC, CPC-A, CCS, CCP, CCA, or COC.
