UC San Diego Health’s Revenue Cycle team supports patient care through high-quality billing and collections operations.
This hybrid role works onsite at Greenwich Drive in San Diego, CA three days per week and remotely the remainder of the week.
The Hospital Billing & Follow Up Representative is responsible for hospital insurance billing, collections, and credit balance account processing. The role handles billing inquiries from patients, insurance companies, and internal departments; resolves account adjustments and billing edits; processes credit balances and insurance refund requests; and supports claim billing with medical record submission and appeal-related work.
The position requires strong knowledge of hospital medical insurance payers and plans, state and federal billing regulations, HIPAA, hospital claim appeals, medical terminology, and coding principles.
Minimum Qualifications
- Three years of recent acute care hospital billing and collection experience
- Knowledge of medical insurance and state and federal rules and regulations related to billing insurance claims
- Extensive knowledge of insurance claims appeals and familiarity with ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS coding principles
- Knowledge of self-pay collections
- Knowledge of UB04 and revenue codes as they relate to billing
Preferred Qualifications
- Epic Resolute experience
- UB04 experience
- Previous hospital billing experience
- Previous hospital credit balance and refund processing experience
