Medical Biller

University of Miami

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Central Business Office is seeking a full-time Medical Biller to work in Miami, FL. This role is responsible for compiling amounts owed to the medical facility and maintaining order, invoice, and payment records.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting patients, insurance companies, and laboratories with billing inquiries
  • Reviewing records for patient information, insurance information, service descriptors, diagnosis codes, and managed care authorization requirements
  • Printing daily appointment voucher reports and reconciling vouchers to reports
  • Entering, reviewing, and retrieving patient account information to ensure accuracy
  • Submitting completed batches to the appropriate billing offices daily
  • Following up on claims to monitor payment status
  • Transmitting coded patient treatment information to payers and other recipients
  • Coordinating insurance reimbursements with care providers
  • Reviewing and releasing physician charges from assigned work queues
  • Reviewing encounters for demographic, guarantor, insurance, place of service, referral, claim, and authorization information
  • Running insurance eligibility checks and correcting registration issues
  • Manually entering paper vouchers for missing charges
  • Reviewing and correcting erroneous or rejected charges
  • Distributing credits from patient payments as needed
  • Assigning charges to cases and phases
  • Performing other assigned duties
Requirements & Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience required.

Additional qualifications:

  • General knowledge of office procedures and operations
  • Strong data entry skills with minimal errors
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Relevant education, certifications, and/or work experience may be considered
