The Patient Account Representative I handles a variety of revenue cycle activities in support of hospital and physician accounts. This includes billing, collections, cash posting, customer service, claims submission, follow-up on unpaid accounts, payment research, appeals, refunds, and A/R clean-up work. The role is responsible for accurate and timely financial documentation and reimbursement while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
This position also requires managing daily work queues, meeting productivity and quality standards, and demonstrating ownership and accountability in day-to-day assignments.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Licensure / Certification
- Relevant licensure and practices obtained within the timeframe required by facility policy
Experience
- 1–2 years of previous hospital and/or physician business office experience preferred
Skills / Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Basic general accounting and bookkeeping knowledge
- Knowledge of medical billing practices and medical terminology
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Experience with Epic and SSI preferred
- Efficient use of a 10-key pad for cash posting roles
- Flexibility and teamwork across business office functions
