Patient Account Representative

Ridgeview

Responsible for the submission, reconciliation, and collection of accounts receivable for Ridgeview Medical Center. This role reports and submits claims to third-party payers, answers inquiries, and provides customer service related to billing issues and account balances. Primary focus areas include payment posting, collections, accounts receivable management, and remittance reconciliation.

Job functions

  • Reviews clearinghouse transactions and claim rejections, makes appropriate corrections, and submits corrected claims.
  • Reviews aged accounts receivable and monitors outstanding insurance claims.
  • Posts payments accurately and promptly to patient accounts.
  • Answers inquiries regarding insurance and billing concerns and follows up when needed.
  • Completes remittance reconciliation.
  • Assists external customers and directs them to the appropriate resources for questions.
  • Provides professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Maintains knowledge of insurance company policies and billing guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications

Minimum education and experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of professional medical billing experience, or a demonstrated work history showing problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and initiative

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Demonstrated skills in claim submission
  • Ability to pass and maintain required background checks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Analytical skills
  • Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to serve patients in a friendly and efficient manner
  • Ability to perform basic math functions

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiarity with medical terminology
