The Medical Billing (AR) Specialist supports the revenue cycle for an eye care practice by ensuring accurate and timely medical claim submission, resolving denials, and helping maintain the organization’s financial health. The role works closely with clinical and administrative teams to maintain billing accuracy, compliance with payer requirements, and efficient account resolution.
Key responsibilities include preparing and submitting professional and institutional claims, reviewing patient accounts for completeness and compliance, troubleshooting rejections and unpaid claims, submitting corrected claims and appeal letters, analyzing reimbursement audits, posting payments and adjustments, coordinating with coding and front office teams, communicating with payers and patients, maintaining HIPAA compliance, supporting audits, and participating in training and process improvement initiatives.
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or medical billing/coding certification preferred.
- 2+ years of medical billing experience in a healthcare setting
- Ophthalmology or specialty care experience preferred
- Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems
- Experience with EHRs and billing software such as NextGen, Nextech, or Trizetto
- Familiarity with payer portals, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurers
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently
