The patient account representative is responsible for accurate and timely collection of claims to third-party payers and patients, coding and entering charges, posting payments, arranging payment plans, providing cost estimates, and updating patient accounts. This position requires timely response to inquiries from both the payer and the patient.
The role has frequent contact with patients, employees, physicians, and other members of the community. Attendance is an essential function of the job.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- High school graduate required
- Minimum of one year of billing experience in a health care setting preferred
- If previous experience is not available, applicants with business training will be considered
Experience
- Previous healthcare billing and follow-up experience preferred
- Minimum of one year of computer data entry experience required
- Ability to work under deadline pressure
- Knowledge of appropriate communication skills for all ages, especially the geriatric population
