Charlotte Community Health Clinic is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to support patient billing, account management, and insurance claim processing in a community health center setting. The role reports to the Revenue Cycle Supervisor and supports the organization’s mission of providing high-quality medical, dental, and behavioral health services to underserved populations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Arranging payments, managing accounts, and monitoring delinquent accounts
- Establishing payment methods with patients and following up on missed payments
- Collecting outstanding balances and sending monthly statements
- Filing insurance claims electronically or by paper to clearinghouses and insurers
- Reviewing and correcting claim edits within 24 hours
- Verifying patient, insurance, diagnosis, treatment, modifier, and provider information for clean claim submission
- Communicating billing issues and reimbursement trends to the supervisor
- Handling coordination of benefits, secondary billing, corrected claims, voids, replacements, and refiling
- Maintaining confidentiality and compliance with clinic, local, state, and federal requirements
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) required
- 1+ years of billing experience in a medical setting
- Prior experience with Epic
- Strong understanding of billing systems
- Strong communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Highly organized
- Analysis and documentation skills
- Strong time management
- Preferred: 2+ years of experience in a medical environment
- Preferred: FQHC CBCS experience
- Preferred: Prior FQHC experience
