OSS Health is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to join the Revenue Cycle team. This role is responsible for helping ensure proper reimbursement by reviewing payer requirements, correcting billing issues, and supporting Patient Financial Services and patients with billing inquiries.
The position follows a Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day schedule and supports billing operations for a healthcare organization focused on quality, innovation, and patient service.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify claim accuracy, including demographics, insurance coverage, coding, modifiers, and required documentation
- Correct and resubmit rejected or denied claims promptly
- Communicate with payers to resolve delays, denials, and underpayments
- Document account activity in billing systems according to department standards
- Review denial codes and EOBs to identify root causes
- Initiate corrections, appeals, or re-billing procedures as needed
- Work with coding, clinical, and front-end teams to prevent recurring errors
- Assist patients and Patient Financial Services with billing, statement, and balance questions
- Ensure compliance with payer policies, CMS regulations, and organizational standards
- Support audits and quality reviews
- Escalate difficult or recurring issues to the Revenue Cycle Manager
- Maintain confidentiality of medical and patient information
Requirements & Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 2 years of experience in medical insurance billing for a hospital, clinic, or physician office
- Working knowledge of hospital and/or physician claim requirements for Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance
- Strong detail orientation, organizational skills, time management skills, and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize duties and communicate with insurance companies, patients, physicians, coworkers, and vendors
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and handle difficult situations tactfully
- Ability to review and understand healthcare and orthopaedic terminology and reimbursement issues
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or accredited certificate from a medical billing program
- Experience with Medent, CPSI, and SSI software
