Billing Specialist

AFC Urgent Care Portland/Vancouver

AFC Urgent Care Clinics is seeking a detail-oriented Billing Specialist to join its Revenue Cycle team at the Tigard, Oregon headquarters.

This role focuses on medical billing and accounts receivable support, with a primary emphasis on Workers' Compensation billing. The position supports daily billing operations, claim follow-up, payment posting, patient communication, and insurance eligibility verification.

The role is currently on-site, with the possibility of a hybrid arrangement in the future based on performance and business needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing Workers' Compensation accounts receivable and claim follow-up
  • Resolving denials, underpayments, and outstanding balances
  • Posting insurance payments, ERAs, checks, EOBs, and patient payments
  • Handling patient billing inquiries and account audits
  • Verifying insurance eligibility and claim status
  • Maintaining accurate billing records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA
Requirements & Qualifications

Required

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in medical billing
  • Experience with Workers' Compensation billing and A/R
  • Experience with denial management and claims resolution
  • Experience posting payments, ERAs, and paper checks in a practice management or EHR system
  • Knowledge of insurance eligibility and claim status portals such as Availity, OneHealthPort, Medicare, Oregon Medicaid, and Washington Medicaid
  • Strong understanding of medical billing processes, payer guidelines, and the claim lifecycle
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace
  • Ability to reliably commute to the Tigard, OR headquarters

Preferred

  • Experience in urgent care, primary care, or multi-specialty outpatient billing
  • Experience with multi-state payer environments in Oregon and Washington
  • Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 codes
  • Experience conducting patient account audits and resolving billing discrepancies

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • No college degree or billing certification required
