Performs highly technical and specialized billing and collections functions for a community health center. Responsible for using coded data to submit claims to insurance companies, billing patients, researching and resolving unpaid accounts, and supporting accounts receivable operations.
Key responsibilities include preparing and submitting clean claims, verifying billing accuracy, posting charges, payments, credits, and adjustments, preparing patient statements, answering billing and insurance questions, resolving patient complaints, collecting delinquent accounts, processing refunds, reviewing unpaid claims, and managing accounts receivable reports.
High school diploma or GED with at least 1 year of experience handling billing and accounts receivable in a similar or related setting.
Required knowledge and skills:
- Medical/dental terminology and billing practices
- Business office procedures
- Federal and state program fiscal requirements, policies, and procedures
- Strong documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities
- Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Outlook
- Ability to learn new software programs and work collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements
- Willingness to travel to meetings, trainings, and clinic sites as needed
