LifeLine Ambulance Illinois is seeking an experienced Ambulance Billing Specialist to join the revenue cycle team in Skokie, Illinois. This role supports accurate and timely insurance verification, prior authorization, and medical necessity review for non-emergency medical transports (NEMT) and facility-to-facility transfers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing comprehensive insurance verification to confirm active coverage and benefits
- Initiating and tracking prior authorization requests through payer portals
- Verifying patient insurance eligibility and ensuring documentation meets medical necessity and regulatory standards
- Submitting and tracking authorization requests for NEMT and facility-to-facility transfers via insurance portals, fax, or phone
- Analyzing patient care reports and Physician Certification Statements (PCS) to confirm payer criteria are met for the requested transport level
- Managing digital and physical documentation, including scanning medical records, managing attachments, and uploading files into the billing system
Requirements & Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience in revenue cycle; EMS billing experience highly preferred
- Technical knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding
- Understanding of government and commercial payer regulations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Strong typing skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to handle high-volume requests with tight deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and professional communication skills
