Responsible for ensuring patient charges and payments are accurate on patient accounts, insurance authorization is obtained, and claims are submitted and followed up on in a timely manner to secure payment from third-party payers or patients. The role requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to manage a high-volume billing workflow efficiently.
Key responsibilities include claim correction, denial review, secondary claim submission, referral attachment, medical records handling, Medicaid claim entry, correspondence management, eligibility and claim status verification, payment and denial posting, charge entry, batch reconciliation, cash deposit reconciliation, and patient communication.
Required knowledge and skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and disease processes
- Demonstrated competency with medical procedural coding (CPT/ICD-10)
- Competence with patient or customer information systems
- Intermediate proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Ability to analyze and solve problems

Education and experience
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in business administration or related field preferred
- College coursework in CPT and ICD-10 coding preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of prior physician billing experience
- Working knowledge of professional fee billing transactions and regulations, insurance carriers, rejection and denial codes, error correction, reposting, and contractual adjustments
