MedStar Health is seeking a Patient Accounts Specialist II to join the Patient Accounting Non-Governmental Follow-up team within MedStar Patient Financial Services.
This role supports commercial, HMO, MCO, Medicare Advantage, and Workers' Compensation payers for seven MedStar Health hospitals in Maryland. The team is responsible for following up on billed accounts with no payment or partial payment, as well as submitting appeals and payment reconsiderations for denials and underpayments.
The position focuses on resolving complex administrative and patient account issues, identifying and escalating payer issues, completing assigned daily claim workloads, tracking backlogs, identifying registration errors, and maintaining compliance with federal regulations and departmental quality standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- CRCS-I (Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist) certification through AAHAM required
- 3-4 years of experience in patient accounting or a related healthcare field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated proficiency in multiple payer billing and/or collection processes
- Basic knowledge of UB-04 and Explanation of Benefits (EOB)
- Some knowledge of medical terminology and CPT/ICD-10 coding
- Strong communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with hospital registration and/or billing systems, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word
- Ability to type 35 WPM
