The Patient Account Representative works in the Central Billing Office (CBO) providing billing services, including processing and submitting patient charges and following up with insurance companies and patients. This role serves as a primary point of contact for internal and external customers and uses the telephone as the main communication method.
Responsibilities include maintaining billing system records, posting charges and payments, handling collections and account follow-up, resolving patient and insurance inquiries, completing payment and deposit batches, reviewing claims for accuracy, and preparing account history information for physician review or collection transfer. The position also requires professionalism, reliability, and strong customer service.
- High school diploma or GED
- 2 to 4 years of billing experience, including ICD-9, CPT coding, and medical terminology or related experience
- Experience with multi-line phone systems, fax machine, photocopier, and PC
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel
- Ability to communicate professionally via the internet
- Ability to operate a PC efficiently and type 40 WPM
- Basic knowledge of billing slips and the athena workflow dashboard
- Understanding of insurance issues, collections, and coding knowledge
