Performs advanced coding functions by reviewing short-stay focused encounters and assigning accurate diagnosis and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems.
Collaborates with departments to resolve documentation gaps and monitors bill hold reports.
Demonstrates strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
Assists the Manager/Director in mentoring and training Coder 1 and 2 team members and clinical practice students.
Contributes to the accuracy and integrity of the medical record.
Requirements & Qualifications
- 5 years of outpatient coding experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred
- Associate degree in Health Information Management preferred
- Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy
