Job Summary
The Billing Specialist assists patients with billing statements via phone, email, or correspondence. The role is responsible for collecting patient accounts from insurance companies and working accounts through the aging process to ensure timely collection of outstanding balances. This position supports the organization by processing and collecting revenue and does not involve direct patient care.
Key Accountabilities
- Send, edit, and correct claims and payer rejections daily, notifying management of problems or trends.
- Process accounts according to required actions to resolve balances with insurance companies, including using payer websites and making calls to insurers and/or patients.
- Respond promptly and professionally to patient inquiries.
- Resolve payer rejections and denials through the appeal process as required by payer contracting requirements.
- Work payer correspondence, edits, and aged accounts receivable while identifying and correcting billing errors.
- Prioritize work queues to ensure prompt resolution and payment on accounts.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 1-2 years of healthcare experience
- Experience in medical billing preferred
- Education in medical billing and/or coding preferred
