The Inpatient Coder abstracts and enters patient data into client electronic medical record systems while following ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, UHDDS, CMS, and AHA POA guidelines.
The role is responsible for assigning diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient accounts, entering coded data for reporting purposes, assigning present-on-admission indicators and discharge dispositions, and querying physicians when documentation is unclear or incomplete.
The position works closely with Clinical Documentation Improvement and Revenue Cycle teams to resolve account issues and maintain coding accuracy and productivity standards.
This is a remote role performed from a home office.
- Approved AHIMA coding credential
- 3+ years of inpatient coding experience in a Level 1 trauma setting
- Experience with Epic/3M or Dolby/Trucode
- Proficiency in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding
- Ability to maintain 95% or better coding accuracy and meet productivity standards
- Strong collaboration, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to self-direct, manage time effectively, and maintain attention to detail
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available
