University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Coding Representative in its Professional Coding Division. This role is responsible for assigning ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes for professional and hospital services while supporting coding compliance, accurate reimbursement, and service excellence.
The position is eligible for remote work, with training completed onsite or via hybrid/Zoom depending on supervisor approval. Remote eligibility will be evaluated after successful training, and all work arrangements must comply with remote work and travel policies.
Key responsibilities include reviewing medical records for code assignment, communicating with physicians and other providers to clarify documentation, meeting productivity and accuracy targets, supporting compliance efforts, and assisting with reporting on documentation issues, coding patterns, physician productivity, and reimbursement trends.
Education
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and/or experience.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of professional/physician coding rules.
- Experience with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, NCCI edits, NCDs, LCDs, and outpatient coding guidelines.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other standard office software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to handle complex and ambiguous situations with minimal supervision.
Certifications
- RHIT, RHIA, CPC, CPC-A, or equivalent certification through AHIMA, AAPC, or another nationally recognized credentialing body.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 1 year of medical coding and/or billing experience.
- Knowledge of coding and billing in a teaching setting.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and CMS requirements.
- Epic experience.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
