Professional Coding and Documentation Improvement Specialist

Capital Health is a regional health care system serving patients across New Jersey with hospitals, an outpatient center, satellite ED, and a broad network of primary and specialty care.

This remote role focuses on physician coding and documentation improvement for professional services. The specialist facilitates compliant coding and documentation for accurate diagnosis, E&M, and CPT assignment, monitors medical record documentation for adherence to industry guidelines and regulations, and provides provider feedback and education to support code selection and documentation quality.

The position is remote, but candidates must reside in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or Alabama.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree in health information management preferred

Credentials

  • CPC or CCS-P required
  • Physician coding and training certification required

Experience

  • 2 years of experience in a professional coding role
  • Monitoring and education experience preferred
  • ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding experience required

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of pathophysiology and disease processes
  • Strong understanding of physician coding and reimbursement guidelines, laws, and regulations
  • Research and analysis skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, or pathophysiology
  • Ability to develop, implement, deliver, and assess coding education plans
  • Ability to work with multiple EMR systems
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
