As part of the Coding Quality team, the coding editor reviews coding quality alerts and billing edits for hospital, outpatient, and ambulatory encounters before final billing. The role also reviews coding denials and identifies opportunities to improve the revenue cycle process.

Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- Successful completion of an approved coding program, or
- Graduation from a Health Information Management program
Experience
- Five years of coding experience in an acute care hospital environment
Certification
Must hold one of the following certifications:
- AHIMA: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCS-P
- AAPC: CPC-H or CPC
Skills and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of coding and abstracting
- Must pass applicable coding test with 85% or above prior to placement
- Knowledge of reimbursement principles, including Medicare and Medicaid
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, anatomy, and physiology
- Good organizational and leadership skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency with computer software, including MS Office
