The Coding Specialist performs medical record coding activities and assigns appropriate diagnostic codes to patient charts and reports as assigned.
Abstracts relevant clinical and demographic information from the medical record to assign ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes in accordance with coding and reimbursement guidelines. Identifies principal and secondary diagnoses with minimal error based on national standards. Codes with 95% accuracy based on internal QA reviews. Records diagnostic procedures and assigns appropriate procedure codes. Requests diagnoses from physicians when information is missing. Updates coding procedures and guidelines. Coordinates medical information and patient charts with medical assistants and other staff.
- Coding knowledge with experience in medical coding
- ICD-10, HCPCS, CPT-4, and CPC familiarity
- Strong communication and organization skills
