This role provides coding and abstracting services for outpatient pediatric surgery CPT records using ICD-10-CM, CPS, and CPT coding systems. The coder reviews medical records, assigns diagnostic and procedural codes, ensures appropriate DRG assignment, and abstracts information according to client guidelines and documentation standards.
Additional responsibilities include real-time chart coding during scheduled shifts, clarifying ambiguous documentation with physicians, participating in team meetings and training, supporting coding education, and contributing to coding roundtables and knowledge-sharing activities.
Must have at least 3 years of related medical coding experience.
Experience with pediatric facility, outpatient, and surgery coding.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes.
Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPS, and CPT coding principles and guidelines, reimbursement systems, and federal, state, and payer-specific regulations.
Must pass a coding proficiency test.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
High level of coding accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Active CCS or CPC certification required.
Ability to maintain current coding credentials and adapt across multiple client assignments as needed.
