Virginia Heart is seeking a professional Medical Coder to review, code, and update charges in charge work queues to ensure accuracy and timely release of charges in a cardiovascular outpatient setting.
Key responsibilities
- Work assigned charges in charge work queues
- Code charges as needed and update charges to ensure correct coding and billing
- Understand payer requirements for allowable diagnosis codes and correct coding
- Monitor work queues and provide workflow improvement input to the Team Lead
- Assist the follow-up team with reviewing and correcting charges in a timely manner
- Identify trends, errors, or issues and report them promptly to leadership
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
- Strong CPT and ICD-10-CM coding expertise
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work under pressure
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Knowledge of third-party payers
- Ability to communicate effectively with managers and directors
Preferred experience
- EPIC experience
- At least 5 years of direct experience in healthcare billing
- At least 3 years of healthcare coding
