Radiation Medicine Coder

Oregon Health & Science University

Support the Enterprise Coding Department by performing highly specialized coding for inpatient, outpatient surgical, observation, and professional/facility services.

  • Assign accurate CPT, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS, and DRG codes as applicable.
  • Abstract information from patient medical records and work assigned EPIC charge router queues.
  • Ensure coding accuracy at 95% or above.
  • Review documentation for compliance with CMS and Oregon Medical Assistance Program requirements.
  • Resolve coding and billing issues, including denial-related questions.
  • Maintain coding and billing controls, procedures, and communication with leadership.
  • Help improve department workflows and support training, mentoring, and orientation of coding staff.
  • Participate in coding meetings, education sessions, and continuous improvement activities.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 4 years of professional or hospital experience reviewing, abstracting, and coding in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, or CPT.
  • Active coding certification through AHIMA or AAPC, such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC, or equivalent certification.
  • Strong knowledge of coding compliance requirements and medical necessity guidelines.
  • Ability to use EMR systems; EPIC and 3M encoder experience preferred.
  • Preferred education includes an accredited coding program, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree.
  • Preferred knowledge of OPPS, CCI edits, NCD/LCD requirements, inpatient and outpatient coding guidelines.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and mentoring skills.
