The Medical Coding Educator provides educational and physician support for coding and billing practices. This role interprets and communicates physician reimbursement legislation and third-party regulations on an ongoing basis to clinicians and professional coders. It also provides continuing education in coding and billing for specialty services and serves as a liaison between coding personnel and other teams, including clinicians, authorization staff, billing, denial management, and executive leadership.
Key responsibilities include developing documentation improvement opportunities, creating tailored education modules and teaching materials for physicians and advanced practice providers, training new providers on E&M, surgical, and ancillary coding, reviewing remittance advice and rejection issues, and collaborating with clinical leadership to design targeted trainings. The role includes both virtual and onsite communication with physicians to support training and mastery.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience
- 6 years of related experience in a healthcare setting
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) with active AAPC membership, or CCS-P with active AHIMA membership
