Responsible for managing medical records functions for a post-acute healthcare facility, ensuring resident health information is accurate, confidential, and compliant with all applicable state, federal, and company requirements.
Key duties include:
- Protecting resident PHI and maintaining confidentiality
- Preventing loss, defacement, or destruction of medical records before the retention period ends
- Retrieving and requesting records promptly for authorized individuals
- Identifying late, incomplete, or inaccurate documentation and reporting issues for correction
- Supporting timely Medicare certifications and recertifications
- Auditing medical records as assigned
- Receiving and filing diagnostic reports accurately and promptly
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable documentation and records-management guidelines
Requirements & Qualifications
- One year of Health Information Management experience required
- RHIT or RHIA certification required, or a valid Texas or compact state nursing license (RN, LVN, or LPN)
- Long-term care experience strongly preferred
- Knowledge of medical records confidentiality and documentation standards
- Ability to audit records and support compliance processes
