Medical Coder II

The Medical Coder II plays a key role in the hospital revenue cycle by accurately coding diagnoses and procedures in accordance with established coding guidelines. This role supports financial accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Position details

  • Location: Hybrid in Warrenville, IL with remote work
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
  • Employment: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Key responsibilities

  • Assign accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to medical records based on clinical documentation.
  • Conduct internal audits of medical records and coding work to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Review clinical documentation and work with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation for accurate coding.
  • Stay current on coding guidelines, conventions, and regulatory changes.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to resolve coding questions and discrepancies and make revisions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local healthcare regulations, including HIPAA privacy standards.
  • Generate coding reports and summaries with feedback on coding accuracy and trends.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior coders.
  • Analyze coding data to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities for process improvement.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Associate degree required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required.
  • At least 2 years of coding experience.
  • Proficiency in ICD-10-CM and CPT coding.
