This Coder II role supports the Cath Lab team and is responsible for accurate outpatient, professional fee, and low-acuity inpatient coding. The position involves coding diagnoses, procedures, and professional fees using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS, and CPT, as well as abstracting and entering required data.
The role also reviews charges, resolves billing issues, communicates with providers regarding missing documentation, and works closely with revenue cycle departments to ensure coding and edits are processed accurately and on time.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 2 years of experience, preferably in Cath Lab coding
- Must hold one of the following certifications:
- CCS
- CCS-P
- CIC
- CIRCC
- COC
- CPC
- RHIA
- RHIT
Key skills and knowledge
- Strong knowledge of coding rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines
- Knowledge of transaction code sets and HIPAA requirements
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
- Proficiency with computer applications, group software, and Correct Coding Initiative (CCI) edits
- Strong understanding of ICD-10 diagnosis and procedural coding and CPT coding
- Ability to interpret health record documentation for accurate code assignment
- Flexibility and adaptability in a regulated environment
