Professional Coder II

The Professional Physician Coder II accurately and efficiently reviews primary care and specialty physician billing and health information systems to gather the records needed to accurately code and bill professional physician and/or physician extender (mid-level) services. The role also supports physician and staff education and identifies possible revenue opportunities.

Essential Job Functions

• Reviews medical records and codes physician services using current ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems.
• Codes diagnoses, co-morbidities, complications, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, supplies, materials, injections, and drugs.
• Assists the Central Business Office with appropriate follow-up of patient accounts to maximize reimbursement, including insurance denials.
• Notifies the Team Lead, Manager, and/or Compliance department of any compliance violations discovered during review.
• Communicates effectively with physicians, physician extenders, physician offices, coding team members, and management.
• Uses department resource materials to support accurate coding practices.
• Maintains patient confidentiality.
• Maintains regular and punctual attendance in accordance with organizational and legal policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
