This role is responsible for processing release of information requests in a timely and efficient manner while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and excellent customer service. The associate must protect patient privacy and ensure all medical information releases comply with the request, authorization, company policy, and HIPAA regulations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Complete release of information requests by retrieving, scanning, and returning medical charts according to established procedures and quality standards.
- Date-stamp requests and highlight pertinent data to support processing.
- Validate requests and authorizations for release of medical information.
- Perform quality checks to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and proper invoicing.
- Handle incoming requests by mail, phone, and fax as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
- Follow HIPAA, state, federal, client, and site policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality, security, and ethical standards when handling privileged information.
Required and preferred qualifications include:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years of prior experience in a medical records department or similar setting preferred.
- Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to type 50 words per minute.
- Ability to use fax machines, copiers, and scanning equipment.
- Willingness to learn new equipment and processes quickly.
- Self-motivated team player with strong customer service skills.
- Ability to multitask effectively.
