HealthNet is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to support accurate and timely submission, follow-up, correction, and resolution of medical claims across Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial, HMO, and PPO payers.
This role is primarily focused on medical billing, claims management, denial resolution, and insurance follow-up to help reduce accounts receivable aging and improve reimbursement outcomes. Additional support may include payment arrangements, payment posting, account resolution, and coordination with collection agencies as needed.
The position is based at Martindale Brightwood Health Center in Indianapolis, IN and includes both onsite and remote work.
Qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Prior experience in medical billing, claim follow-up, denial resolution, and third-party payer reimbursement processes.
- Strong knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial payer requirements.
- Understanding of payer policies, reimbursement methodologies, contractual adjustments, allowable amounts, denials, discounts, and payment resolution processes.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and working knowledge of coding concepts including CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and UB claim requirements.
- Experience using electronic payer inquiry systems, claim status portals, and insurance research tools.
- Ability to research and resolve credit balances, debit balances, adjustment claims, and reimbursement discrepancies.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet productivity and quality standards.
- Ability to adapt to changing workflows and priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of medical billing systems, electronic claim processing, payment posting, and account resolution workflows.
- Strong organizational, customer service, listening, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive patient information confidentially in accordance with HIPAA standards.
- Ability to work efficiently and professionally under pressure.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Annual competency and departmental training completion required.
- Travel may be required.
