This role provides accurate and timely revenue cycle and account management services to OCHIN Billing Services (OBS) member clients. The Medical Billing Specialist supports billing operations, resolves claim issues, maintains compliance with payer requirements, and contributes to continuous process improvement.
The position may include support for member clinics and patients, including self-pay accounts, customer inquiries, daily claims production, printing, mailing, and preparing documentation for clean claim submission.
Essential functions
- Process claims, manage accounts receivable, and maintain documentation in compliance with payer guidelines and OCHIN systems.
- Investigate and resolve claim denials, identify trends, and help improve reimbursement outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to clarify billing requirements.
- Track deadlines and prioritize daily billing activities for timely completion.
- Apply foundational knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system and OCHIN solutions to billing operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work location and travel
- 100% remote organization with no physical corporate office location.
- Employees work from home.
- Nationwide travel may be required based on business needs.
- Travel may be required up to 20% nationally for on-site go-live support.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in billing and/or coding revenue cycle operations.
- Working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, MVA, workers' compensation, and private insurance billing and reimbursement processes.
- Experience billing for California is highly preferred.
- FQHC experience and knowledge preferred.
- Dental billing experience preferred.
- Medical Billing Certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), preferred.
- For acute care hospital work, rural hospital experience is required.
- Ability to complete a 50–60 minute competency assessment prior to team interview.
