The Bedford-Stuyvesant Family Health Center (BSFHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving the primary health care needs of families in North and Central Brooklyn. This role is responsible for accurate and timely billing, claims submission, payment posting, and follow-up for services provided by an FQHC. The position requires strong knowledge of FQHC billing rules, Medicare, Medicaid, managed care plans, and New York State regulations to support maximum reimbursement and compliance with federal, state, and payer requirements.
The work includes preparing and submitting claims, resolving denials, posting payments, assisting with patient billing inquiries, maintaining billing records, and supporting month-end closing and revenue reporting.
Education and experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree in healthcare administration or a related field preferred
- CPB or CPC certification preferred
- 3-5 years of medical billing and administrative experience
- Experience in an FQHC or community health center strongly preferred
- Medical billing/coding certification is a plus
Knowledge and skills
- Strong knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and managed care billing
- Familiarity with insurance provider portals, clearinghouses, and claims tracking tools
- Ability to apply CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and revenue codes correctly
- Understanding of FQHC-specific PPS and wrap-around billing requirements
- Proficiency with EHR and practice management systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience with eClinicalWorks preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently
