The insurance billing patient account specialist is responsible for billing and collection activity with insurance carriers. This includes research and contact with patients, guarantors, insurance companies, and other third-party payers.
Under the leadership of the Manager, Patient Financial Services, this role is responsible for account billing, review of payment accuracy, account research, and follow-up. Responsibilities also include financial, clinical, or demographic account corrections, coordination with service providers and payers, root-cause analysis of denied payments, and timely follow-up on claims.
The position involves filtering and sorting EPIC work queues to support effective accounts receivable strategies, staying current on payer billing requirements, maintaining compliant billing practices, and communicating payer trends to leadership.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in patient financial services or healthcare billing
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work tactfully with patients, staff, and interdepartmental customers
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of healthcare billing regulations and compliance requirements
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
