The Medical Billing Specialist supports the Director of Operations and Clinical Program Directors by handling billing and financial record maintenance for clinical operations. The role is responsible for insurance payment integrity, accounts receivable management, reconciliation, billing and payment disputes, bank deposits, and electronic records management and auditing.
Key duties include:
- Ensuring medical claims are properly coded and billed in a timely manner
- Identifying, investigating, and resolving billing problems
- Reconciling insurance payments to patient accounts
- Correcting claims for rebilling and appealing denials
- Making daily or weekly bank deposits
- Reconciling bank activities with reports in DASH
- Maintaining provider credentialing for network participation compliance
- Preparing daily collections reports
- Supervising work study students
- Performing other assigned duties
Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Two years of experience in an office setting in medical billing using an electronic medical record and/or accounting system, or a combination of education and experience equal to two years
- Prior experience in an audiology or speech pathology setting is preferred
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of insurance billing procedures and basic accounting skills
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word
- Accurate typing and data entry skills
- Experience with computerized patient management or accounting systems
- Ability to read printed and cursive writing
- Strong communication skills with a friendly, tactful, and professional demeanor
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
