Medical Billing Specialist I

Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC)

Under close supervision, prepares and submits insurance claims and assists with reviewing and adjusting accounts to ensure accurate and thorough billing of claims.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and submitting simple, basic insurance claims
  • Completing insurance data for patient claims
  • Processing and researching accounts
  • Verifying diagnosis and authorization codes
  • Identifying liability and guarantors
  • Reviewing and adjusting account balances
  • Interpreting Explanation of Benefits (EOBs)
  • Posting payments and adjustments in billing databases and preparing batches for posting
  • Creating, organizing, correcting, updating, and maintaining accounts on data spreadsheets using medical billing software
  • Tracking claim status and confirming receipt of claims
  • Performing other duties as assigned or required
Requirements & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience working in a medical office with exposure to medical billing
  • Equivalent combinations of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience
