Under close supervision, prepares and submits insurance claims and assists with reviewing and adjusting accounts to ensure accurate and thorough billing of claims.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing and submitting simple, basic insurance claims
- Completing insurance data for patient claims
- Processing and researching accounts
- Verifying diagnosis and authorization codes
- Identifying liability and guarantors
- Reviewing and adjusting account balances
- Interpreting Explanation of Benefits (EOBs)
- Posting payments and adjustments in billing databases and preparing batches for posting
- Creating, organizing, correcting, updating, and maintaining accounts on data spreadsheets using medical billing software
- Tracking claim status and confirming receipt of claims
- Performing other duties as assigned or required
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- One (1) year of experience working in a medical office with exposure to medical billing
- Equivalent combinations of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience
