Gateway Rehab Center is seeking a remote Billing Specialist to support patient service billing, accounts receivable follow-up, refunds, denials, and write-offs. The role works with EHR service entries, clean claims, invoices, patient bills, and payer communications while maintaining accuracy and compliance in a healthcare billing environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Processing, editing, auditing, and posting service entries into the EHR
- Generating clean claims, invoices, and patient bills based on third-party payer requirements
- Monitoring and collecting outstanding accounts receivable and following up on open balances
- Reviewing Explanation of Benefits and Remittance Advices for payment accuracy, copays, deductibles, and denials
- Tracking and reporting accounts receivable trends to leadership
- Supporting monthly closings and payer analysis
- Coordinating with utilization review on authorization issues
- Handling adjustments, write-offs, charity care, and refunds
- Communicating with patient benefit coordinators, administrative staff, therapists, insurance companies, and collection vendors
- Supporting audits, appeals, denials, and special projects
Requirements & Qualifications
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Understanding of healthcare billing practices
- Familiarity with commercial insurance providers, including prior authorizations and claim submissions
- Knowledge of the full billing cycle, including charge entry, claims processing, payment posting, and collections
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles
- Understanding of patient privacy laws and healthcare compliance standards
Minimum requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 1 year of billing experience
Other requirements
- Must pass a Pennsylvania criminal background check
- Must obtain Pennsylvania Child Abuse and FBI fingerprinting clearances
- Must pass a drug screen
- Must complete a 2-step TB test
