The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for verifying patient insurance coverage and benefits to support accurate billing and claims processing. This role works closely with patients, clinicians, and insurance companies to confirm coverage details, maintain accurate patient insurance records, and support revenue cycle operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits eligibility using the EPIC Real Time Eligibility module
- Communicate with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to obtain and confirm required information
- Coordinate with clinical staff and operations to ensure documentation needed for verification is available
- Update insurance and patient information in the EPIC system as needed
- Follow up on insurance verification issues and claim submission concerns
- Use payer websites and online tools to confirm coverage details
- Resolve patient billing and insurance questions or disputes
- Communicate patient insurance coverage, benefits, and financial obligations clearly
- Document all interactions for reporting and audit purposes
- Share trends, issues, and system improvement opportunities with Revenue Cycle Management leadership
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in insurance verification
- Experience in an FQHC environment preferred
- Prior healthcare experience in a similar role
- Strong understanding of insurance benefits, eligibility, and medical terminology
- Proficiency with real-time eligibility tools and payer portal navigation
- EPIC certification preferred but not required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
