Patient Accounts Representative

The Patient Accounts Representative supports the revenue cycle by performing insurance verification, reviewing accounts, following up on patient balances, and helping ensure a positive patient financial experience.

Requirements & Qualifications

Key responsibilities

  • Obtain medical coverage information from patients and verify coverage with the appropriate insurance carrier.
  • Enter insurance information into PM and EMR systems.
  • Communicate insurance status to patients, clients, and RCM departments.
  • Review deductibles and copays and enter them into the billing system.
  • Monitor delinquent accounts and help resolve payment issues.
  • Apply patient payments and adjustments accurately using EOBs and statement reports.
  • Maintain accurate notes and correspondence in the patient chart/EMR.
  • Answer incoming calls and route them appropriately to the RCM team.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Medical reimbursement experience preferred.
  • Medical office experience and medical terminology preferred.
  • Experience with electronic medical records or other medical software preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks.
  • Detail-oriented and professional with patients and family members.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and keyboarding preferred.
  • Must follow HIPAA rules and regulations.
