The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for billing and collections for Medicare, Medicaid, insurance, and self-pay patients across medical and dental clinics. The role supports a range of billing functions, including cash posting, denial follow-up, insurance filings, charge review, reconciliation support, and reporting.
This position is on-site at the Lillington, NC office.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collecting, analyzing, and summarizing third-party billing data, accounts pending, and late charge trends
- Posting cash receipts and insurance payments to EHS software
- Researching and following up on denials for payment
- Completing secondary insurance filings
- Reviewing daily charge batches and maintaining the monthly deposit journal
- Assisting Finance with reconciling EHS End of Day reports to the deposit journal
- Reporting received payments to the Accounting Manager for physician reimbursement
- Covering the Patient Representative role as needed during absences or vacancies
- Maintaining accurate ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS codes within EHS software
- Completing required EHS procedures such as End of Day and End of Month processing
- Researching and resolving credit balances and accounts receivable issues
- Assisting with monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations and required reporting
- Supporting annual cost reports, financial audits, UDS reports, and other governmental reporting
- Performing other duties as assigned by leadership
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma required
- Associate degree in Medical Billing and Coding preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 2 years of progressive billing experience required
- Familiarity with computerized accounting and billing systems
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced office environment
- Attention to detail and a professional attitude
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Ability to follow policies and procedures consistently
