Insurance Specialist

DCH Health System

Responsible for managing and performing efficient and effective accounts receivable functions for multiple DCH medical facilities. The role focuses on accurately and timely reviewing and collecting assigned billed insurance claims while maintaining individual and departmental goals for discharged and final billed accounts, AR aging, AR days, cash collections, and related metrics.

This position works daily in the Patient Accounts Department using Meditech, Optum, payer websites, and other software tools to review claims, follow up on unpaid balances, and support claim resolution. The role also collaborates with other departments such as Patient Access, Case Management, and Medical Records, maintains professionalism in all interactions, and helps recommend process improvements.

Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • One year or more of related experience in a healthcare business office preferred
  • Knowledge of insurance types related to claims billing and follow-up, including governmental, HMO, PPO, and commercial plans preferred
  • Knowledge of federal, state, hospital, and departmental rules and regulations for compliant healthcare claims filing and reimbursement preferred
  • Proficiency with personal computer skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good customer service skills and history of good attendance
  • Ability to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English

Working Conditions

  • Physical presence onsite is essential
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive desktop work
  • Ability to lift boxes up to 20 pounds, with some tasks requiring up to 35 pounds maximum two-person lift
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person and by phone
  • Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to normal range
  • Must be able to maintain patient confidentiality at all times
