Billing Account Representatives are responsible for improving processes and resolving issues related to the follow-up and collection of medical accounts, including institutional and professional encounters. They review notes, take appropriate actions to work and resolve encounters in their workflow, and handle items assigned by management.
The role requires strong interpersonal and analytical skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to multitask across a variety of items. Representatives use phone, email, internet, and regular mail to communicate and resolve account issues.
They must be able to explain payor items such as payment remittance interpretation, professional charge processing, and in-network and out-of-network benefits, and understand different payor reimbursement methodologies.
Representatives are expected to pursue all avenues for reimbursement until claims are satisfactorily resolved, comply with Corporate Compliance and HIPAA standards, attend departmental team meetings, and communicate ongoing training needs to supervision as needed.
