Job Overview
This role is for a customer service-oriented medical billing specialist supporting a high-volume urgent care environment. The position focuses on assisting patients with billing questions, supporting front office staff, resolving billing issues, and helping with claims review, denial review, and accounts receivable analysis. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, patient-focused setting.
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service to patients
- Answer patient calls and written/email correspondence regarding billing questions and concerns
- Support front office staff with billing issues, data entry, improvement opportunities, and best practices
- Resolve issues related to the third-party billing team
- Assist with claims review, denial review, and overall accounts receivable analysis
- Identify insurance trends to support prompt resolution and maximize collections
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
- Contribute to ongoing improvement of healthcare billing and collection processes
Minimum Qualifications
- 1-2 years of medical billing experience, preferably in urgent care or family medicine
- Strong understanding of insurance types including PPO, HMO, Medicare, and Medi-Cal
- 1-2 years of customer service experience
- 1-2 years of experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Medical billing certificate preferred
- Strong communication and listening skills
- Friendly, empathetic, and professional demeanor
- Ability to work well with management, providers, administration, and front/back office teams
- Ability to multitask and solve problems effectively
- Proficiency with computers, EMR systems, practice management systems, reporting tools, coding, claims, EOBs, and Excel
- Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize workload
- Reliable transportation required
