Responsible for managing patient account balances, including accurate claim submission, timely follow-up, and assistance with denial management to support the financial viability of WVU Medicine hospitals. Provides customer support, resolves inquiries, completes reports and clerical duties as needed, and works with leadership and team members to support strong revenue cycle operations.
Key responsibilities
- Submit accurate and timely claims to third-party payers
- Resolve claim edits and account errors before submission
- Follow up with payers to support collections and payment resolution
- Assist Patient Access and Care Management with denials investigation and resolution
- Use payer portals and websites to verify claim status and conduct account follow-up
- Reconcile billing account transactions and process follow-up work accurately
- Maintain productivity, work queues, and confidentiality standards
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and employees
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of medical billing or medical office experience preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
- Knowledge of business math preferred
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding processes preferred
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of computers
- Ability to use tact and diplomacy in dealing with others
- Ability to understand written and oral communication
