This role is responsible for processing release of information requests in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining accuracy, customer service, confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance. The associate ensures that only authorized individuals access patient medical information and that all disclosures comply with request authorization, company policy, and applicable regulations.
Key responsibilities include retrieving and returning medical charts, scanning records accurately, transmitting records daily, date-stamping requests, validating authorizations, performing quality checks, handling incoming mail, phone, and fax inquiries as needed, maintaining equipment and work area, and supporting additional facilities or backlog needs when required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 2 years of prior experience in a medical records department or similar setting preferred
- Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to type 50 words per minute
- Ability to use fax machines, copiers, and scanning equipment
- Willingness to learn new equipment and processes quickly
- Self-motivated and a team player
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to multitask
