Accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and ICD-10-PCS codes to applicable patient encounters according to established guidelines.
Review patients’ medical records on the nursing units and work closely with CDI staff to promote specificity in physician documentation.
Serve as an educational and informational resource to the Medical Staff as needed to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
Assist with retrospective record auditing to validate the accuracy of concurrent processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
Perform inpatient and outpatient hospital coding and other assignments as directed by supervisors.
Education
- Associate degree in Health Information Management
- Or graduation from an approved coding course
- Or equivalent coding experience
Experience
- Five years of medical record coding experience
Licenses and Certifications
- RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCA, CPC, COC, or CIC credential preferred/required for credentialed Health Information Management professionals
