Certified Medical Coder Revenue Cycle

Role overview

Work on-site in Tulsa, OK as part of the Revenue Cycle Management team at Ascension Medical Group - South Harvard.

Key responsibilities

  • Apply appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to patient health records for document retrieval, analysis, and claim processing.
  • Abstract pertinent information from patient records.
  • Assign ICD, CPT, or HCPCS codes and create APC or DRG assignments.
  • Perform complex coding.
  • Meet productivity and quality standards defined by coding policy.
  • Query physicians when code assignments are unclear, incomplete, or ambiguous.
  • Maintain knowledge of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
  • Conduct chart audits for physician documentation requirements and internal coding.
  • Provide education to associates and physicians as appropriate.
  • Follow the Standards of Ethical Coding and official coding guidelines.
Requirements & Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • One or more of the following credentials required prior to hire or transfer date:
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
    • Coder
    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
    • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • High school diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
  • Required professional licensure or certification may be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous coding experience preferred.
  • Comfortable coding across different specialties.
  • Must live in Oklahoma because the role is on-site.
