Role overview
Work on-site in Tulsa, OK as part of the Revenue Cycle Management team at Ascension Medical Group - South Harvard.
Key responsibilities
- Apply appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to patient health records for document retrieval, analysis, and claim processing.
- Abstract pertinent information from patient records.
- Assign ICD, CPT, or HCPCS codes and create APC or DRG assignments.
- Perform complex coding.
- Meet productivity and quality standards defined by coding policy.
- Query physicians when code assignments are unclear, incomplete, or ambiguous.
- Maintain knowledge of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
- Conduct chart audits for physician documentation requirements and internal coding.
- Provide education to associates and physicians as appropriate.
- Follow the Standards of Ethical Coding and official coding guidelines.
Requirements & Qualifications
Required qualifications
- One or more of the following credentials required prior to hire or transfer date:
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
- Coder
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- High school diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
- Required professional licensure or certification may be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
Preferred qualifications
- Previous coding experience preferred.
- Comfortable coding across different specialties.
- Must live in Oklahoma because the role is on-site.
